RS800 Rooster National Tour at the Lymington Dinghy Regatta

by Katie Barton 18 Aug 08:01 PDT 12-13 August 2023

After racing was abandoned with 30 knot gusts on Saturday, the RS800 fleet ventured out into slightly milder conditions on Sunday... however it was still 19 knot average, gusting 25 knots, over an aggressive wind-against-tide Solent sea state.

With waves crashing over the bow and the constant potential for nose diving at any moment we bounced from wave to wave downwind right on the edge of control.

In my first RS800 open event we were thrilled to make it round three laps in such conditions without a capsize.

Luke & Emma McEwen took the win in the first race but came in early, leaving Tim Gratton & Arthur Henderson to take the overall win in the RS800 fleet and third overall in the mixed fleet.

All in all a fantastically exciting Lymington Regatta! Thanks to RS800 National Tour sponsor Rooster.
