by Lucy Burn 13 Aug 2023 22:07 PDT 6-11 August 2023

Undoubtedly, it's an unanimous sentiment that this year's Salcombe Gin© SYC Regatta brought immense enjoyment to everyone, both on and off the water.

A heartfelt appreciation goes out once more to the Enterprise Fleet for their enthusiastic participation. The week appeared to be filled with enjoyable moments, and we eagerly anticipate the possibility of your return next year for another round of festivities. A hearty congratulations are in order for Jane & Nick Scutt, who exhibited exceptional prowess by triumphing in 4 out of 6 races, ultimately securing the prestigious top prize.

Witnessing the Laser, RS400, and Merlin Fleets engage in morning races was a delightful sight to behold. In a display of remarkable skill and determination, Figs Cain & Barney Deasrly completely asserted their dominance within the RS400 Fleet by triumphing in all of their races. Congratulations is extended to both of you for such an impressive achievement.

Turning the spotlight to the Laser Fleet, Penny Guess emerged victorious, showcasing her exceptional skills on the water.

The top honour in the Merlin Rocket category rightfully belongs to John & Katy Meadowcroft, whose performance secured them the coveted 1st prize.

The infusion of new talent into the Salcombe Yawl Fleet is always a source of excitement, and this year's event was no exception, particularly within the Gold Fleet where fresh faces made a significant presence.

A resounding applause is in order for Mark & Jane Alexander, who showcased remarkable efforts in Yawl 87, securing victory in 4 out of 6 races and ultimately clinching the 1st place position at the end of the week.

Notably, Roz McGee exhibited admirable courage by participating in her inaugural regatta alongside her husband, Phil, in Y74. Their valiant effort resulted in a victory in Race 3 - a remarkable accomplishment for a first-timer. Well done Roz!

With enthusiasm, we anticipate observing the continued progress of the Gold Fleet in the coming year. Who knows, perhaps we'll witness some of you making the transition to the Blue Fleet next year?

With a standout performance, Tim Fells, alongside Justin Eplett & Helen Hilditch, secured a triumphant victory in the Handicap Fleet by capturing three out of their six races. Their exceptional navigation aboard a Lark propelled them to the top spot.

Over in the Solo Fleet, Paul Ellis showcased his sailing skills by claiming the leading position. In a closely contested match, the SYC Commodore followed closely behind, securing a commendable 2nd place finish.

The Salcombe Yawl Blue Fleet was characterized by dynamic competition, with nearly a different victor emerging each day. Ultimately, the top honour was bestowed upon Mike Knowles & Nicola Bass, skillfully navigating Y15 to clinch the 1st place position.

As for the Yawl Red Fleet, there were no surprises in store for the winners. The husband and wife duo, Will & Mandy Henderson, sailed their way to an undisputed 1st place finish, solidifying their dominance.
