Weymouth delivers

After the many months of anticipation and a week of intermittent rain, Weymouth delivered the finest of days for the 29er practice race and welcoming opening ceremony, with 22 knots of wind and sparkling sunshine.

Sailors from all around the World

205 entries, 410 sailors from 25 countries have made their way to the 2012 British Olympic venue to sail out of the high performance and world renowned Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy and so far it has done nothing but deliver. After three days of measurement to ensure all teams are competing fairly, competitors have just one more sleep, full of excitement and no doubt a few nerves before the biggest championship of the year.

Sponsored by Musto, Marlow and Ovington Boats, Day 1 of racing commences on Sunday 30th July at 11 am with a windy forecast and the competitors to be split into four fleets, across two race courses.

2022 Men's World Champions

Men's World Champions from 2022, Argentinians Maximo Videla and Tadeo Funes are both racing to defend their titles, this time with different team-mates, Juan Cruz Albamonte and Amparo Stupenengo respectively so no doubt their battle will be one to watch as the week unfolds.

2022 Men's Silver Medalists Alex Demurtas and Giovanni Santi (Italy) and Bronze Medalists Hugo Revil and Karl Devaux (France) are both in attendance and will most certainly be looking to claim the top spot on the podium and take home the Gold Medals this time in 2023.

2022 Women's World Bronze Medalists and European Champions

In the Women's fleet, Irish teammates Lucia Cullen and Alana Twomey took Bronze at the Worlds 2022 and are very well placed for the podium in 2023 along with Lulu Hamilton and Carolina Zager, USA, not forgetting 2022 Women's European Champions, Spanish siblings Sara and Isabel Momplet Baixauli who will join the battle for the podium tomorrow.

2023 Open Fleet Category

For the first time, the International 29er Fleet will be awarding a separate prize for the Open fleet category to recognise and provide further opportunities for mixed pairings within our sport and we are excited to watch the fleet continue to grow and flourish within this championship and across the globe.
