Warnemünde once again showcased its exceptional sailing conditions as the 32 teams from 10 different nations participate in the highly anticipated 2023 Star Eastern Hemisphere Championship. With blue skies and a pleasant cool breeze, two thrilling races took place today, further intensifying the competition.

The first race commenced at approximately 12 pm, with a gentle 6/7 knot north wind. The early frontrunners consolidated their position by securing victory in race three of the Championship. Following closely behind were Piet Eckert and Frederico Melo, representing Switzerland and Portugal respectively. Max Kohlhoff and Ole Burzinski, a team relatively new to the Class but winners of yesterday's second race, finished strongly in third place, displaying their immense potential.

In the second race of the day, the wind shifted to the right, coming from the northeast, and provided a slightly higher pressure of about 8/9 knots. This allowed for full hiking positions for both the crew and skipper. Jorgen Shoenherr and Markus Koy from Denmark and Germany triumphed in race four, demonstrating their skill and strategy. Eckert and Melo continued their impressive performance, securing a second-place finish for the day. Joachim Hellmich and Johannes Sablating completed the race in third position.

Consistency has been the key for Piet Eckert and Frederico Melo, who now hold the provisional lead overall. Reflecting on the challenging day, Eckert commented, "It was a very tricky day, but we thoroughly enjoyed it. Navigating through the wind shifts posed difficulties, but it is precisely the kind of challenge we relish. It has been fantastic sailing for all of us in this remarkable venue."

Anticipation builds as two more races are scheduled for tomorrow, with expectations of slightly lighter winds. The competition remains fierce as the teams strive to secure their positions and emerge victorious in the 2023 Star Eastern Hemisphere Championship.
