Norfolk Broads Yacht Club Dinghy Open

by Brian Wilkins 26 Jun 23:36 PDT 10 June 2023

The seven visitors and ten local boats taking part in the dinghy open on 10th June were blessed with warm sunshine and a pleasant F2 easterly breeze. The visitors, from WOBYC, Rollesby Broad SC and Ouse Amateur SC all sailed Streakers, and were pleased to be given their own start, making this an event on their national circuit.

The visitors were also included in the Allcomers B section, and featured in 2nd, 3rd and 4th places, however it was Richard Whitefoot who excelled in the 13 qualifiers in his ILCA (Laser), with two firsts and a second on corrected time to take first place overall and the Wayfarer Trophy, as well as the Sparkle Trophy for first Laser.

In the three strong Norfolk One Design class, Ray Johnson sailed consistently, in Coot, with three firsts to take the Marks Cup.

The Topper Class was won by William Keys Batson, who switched out of his Optimist for a better competition, and steadily improved - his score line 3, 2, 1, 1 earned him the Rock Salt Cellar.
