Over 60 sailing crews will take on the challenge of crossing the whole the Baltic Sea for the 8th MidsummerSail on June 21st 2023.
The longest and therefore also the toughest sailing race on the Baltic Sea begins at the southernmost point in Wismar, Germany and ends in the small Swedish town of Töre, which is the northernmost point of the Baltic Sea.
There, after successfully crossing the entire length of that fantastic stretch of water, finishers get to stand on a famous yellow buoy for their victory photo taken.
The starting gun, fired at 1pm sharp from the Hansekogge Wissemara, marks the point when the sun is at its highest point of the year, midsummer.
The record for the approximately 900 nautical miles is 4 days, 19 hours and 7 minutes. It was set last year by the Class 40 RED and skipper Mathias Mueller of Blumencron and his crew.
5 trophies can be won: fastest monohull, fastest multihull, smallest crew and smallest boat. In addition, you can sail according to IRC rules.
But it's not just about winning trophies, but also about the experience of the white summer nights of the northern Baltic Sea. Most participants are there for the adventure.
In the "Race Village" of the Marina Weisse Wiek in Boltenhagen, experienced participants, new sailors, visitors and families can exchange experiences and dreams. Music and fireworks on June 20 from 7.30pm. will see the sailors off the eve before this adventure starts.
