The organisers of the 37th America's Cup in Barcelona today announced the launch of the AC37 Volunteer Programme with an ambition to create the largest and most passionate Volunteer Team in the history of the event.

"We are seeking the most diverse candidates from all backgrounds and demographics to become 'Team B', Team Barcelona, and showcase the event and the city - described as a 'Jewel in the Sun' - to the world," said AC37 Event CEO Grant Dalton. "It's an ambitious project with a total of 2,300 volunteers required to ensure the smooth running of all facets of the event and is open to all adults, genders, demographics, and abilities. We are seeking volunteers that have a passion for Barcelona, a passion for volunteering, and want to showcase the values of the 37th America's Cup on the world stage."

Volunteering is always an integral part of any major global sporting event and offers the selected volunteers the ability to not only watch the event but become part of the event and gain productive experience through training and briefings offered within the specific areas of volunteering, grouped as follows: On Water, On Land and TV & Media.

The huge number of roles on offer mean a wide-variety of volunteer positions such as supporting the America's Cup Trophy as it travels around Barcelona, Green Angels promoting sustainability, VIP and America's Cup Village support, Marshal support out on the water, Stake Boat support to manage the America's Cup racecourse, Port Olímpic Fan Zone support and even Superyacht programme support - the list of roles is comprehensive, there is something for everyone.

The Volunteer registration for the Barcelona events in 2024, is now open and will run through to November 2023 with the review process taking place between December 2023 and February 2024 ahead of appointments and confirmations that will be communicated in March 2024. Applications can be made solely through the America's Cup website: www.americascup.com/volunteers

In addition to the AC37 Team B Volunteer programme for the 68 days of the America's Cup events taking place between August and October 2024, there is also an immediate call for volunteers to assist the smooth running of the first America's Cup Preliminary Regatta to be held in Vilanova i La Geltrú. The AC37 Volunteer Programme is seeking 350 volunteers with preference for local volunteers to apply for the myriad of positions on offer. Availability will be required from the 12th September 2023 through to the 17th September 2023 with training being conducted on the 12th and 13th September 2023.

Applicants for all volunteer roles for the Barcelona 2024 events will need to be at least 18 years of age on the 31st of December 2023 and willing to commit to specific 10 day group shifts, published in advance, of approximately six hours for each group per day. Volunteers may apply for all six groups over the 68-day event period or select those that suit them best. Every successful applicant after the initial screening process will be interviewed either in person or via telephone or video conferencing but with a huge variety of roles and responsibilities available, there is something for everyone.

Underpinning 'Team B' are four essential facets:

  • The B of Barcelona: our home and our city. We open our doors to the 37th America's Cup to host an historic event.

  • The B of Blue: we care about the Blue Economy, and we aim to all of the sustainable aspects of our event. We will protect the Mediterranean Sea and aim to have a positive impact on the environment.

  • The B of Bright: we are looking for volunteers who shine! Who have a passion for what they do, are positive and have an exemplary attitude. Let's show the world why Barcelona is called the 'Jewel in the Sun.'

  • The B of Be There: the volunteer must be there when and where they are needed. Volunteering is a serious role and a vital part of the organisation of the event. Volunteers will fill unique positions, so they need to be highly responsible.

Barcelona is a city well-used to staging large, international events with many citizens remembering the positive impact and legacy of the Olympic Games in 1992. The 37th America's Cup is a truly global sporting phenomenon, and the eyes of the world will be on Barcelona from August through to the end of October 2024. The Volunteer Team will be one of the vital elements that makes the Americas Cup in Barcelona the biggest, brightest, and most successful America's Cup in history.

This is your chance to be a part of that history. Don't delay, volunteer today.
