Loch Earn Sailing Club is pleased to be hosting the 2023 Brown Cup Scottish Schools Sailing Championships for 2023 sponsored by Optos.

The Loch Earn Sailing Club is thrilled to announce this year's Brown Cup Scottish Schools Sailing Championships for 2023. The Brown Cup event, known for its inter-school sailing competition, will take place from 10th to 12th June 2023 on the picturesque Loch Earn from the Loch Earn Sailing Club.

The Brown Cup Scottish Schools Sailing Event spans three exciting days, featuring two days of coaching followed by the Scottish Schools Race, which forms the highlight of the event on the third day. Designed for school pupils attending Scottish Schools aged 7 to 18, this regatta offers a unique opportunity for participants to learn, improve and enjoy dinghy sailing racing whilst competing against other Scottish schools. The event invites sailors from both Primary and Secondary schools to participate. The optional coaching sessions will be held on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th June, with the Scottish School Sailing Championships scheduled for Monday 12th June.

The most recent edition of the Brown Cup, held in 2022, witnessed an impressive turnout of 74 entrants representing over 28 Scottish schools. Twelve teams, comprising three pupils each, competed fiercely for the coveted Brown Cup. The races were divided into three fleets: Optimist, Topper, and General handicap. The event boasted an impressive fleet size, with 10 Optimists, 29 Toppers, and 23 General handicap boats, and also featured four talented Primary School Sailors. The competition was intense, with 14 school teams vying for the Brown Cup.

In a display of exceptional skill and determination, the High School of Dundee emerged as the champions, successfully defending their title from 2019, the last time the event was held. The winning team, consisting of Suzie Sturrock, Scott Xu, James, and Rory Gifford, showcased remarkable teamwork and sailing prowess throughout the championship.

The second place was secured by Lomond High School A, represented by Eilidh McQueen, Andrew Perratt, and Logan Brown. Their impressive strategy and tactics kept them in close contention for the top spot. Taking home the third-place honours was St Leonards High School B, with Oscar Morris, Madeleine Fleetham, and Thomas Loosley exhibiting excellent sailing skills and determination. In the Primary School category, Dunblane Primary's Mathew Williams emerged as the top competitor, showcasing remarkable talent and sailing abilities. Rohan O'Kane from Milngavie Primary secured the second position, adding to the excitement and diversity of the competition.
