With 139 days to go, the New Zealand Multihull Yacht Club (NZMYC) has announced that entries for the race are officially open for the 40th PIC Coastal Classic Yacht Race from Auckland to Russell in the Bay of Islands

"While last year commemorated the 40th anniversary of the Coastal Classic, this year marks the 40th race - having missed a year due to COVID lockdown in 2021" says Greer Houston, Commodore of the PIC Coastal Classic. "This year holds even more excitement, as we anticipate the inclusion of some of the big Australian boats, who would have just completed the grueling Sydney to Auckland Ocean Race."

Organisers are now accepting entries online and encourgaing participants to get prepared for the labour weekend ritual - race day Friday 20th October 2023.

Considered one of the world's most famous yacht races, the Coastal traditionally attracts the very best of New Zealand yachting to race alongside a colourful fleet of boats of all shapes, sizes and abilities. It's traditionally a battle between single hulled 'monohulls' and double or triple hulled 'multihulls'.

Starting in the vicinity of Devonport Wharf on the morning of Friday 20 October 2023, the 119 nautical mile long challenge is again expected to draw well-seasoned yachties and beginner sailors alike. This is an opportunity to test your mettle, embrace camaraderie and celebrate the spirit of sailing.

"So much about sailing is changing these days, but it's nice to know this iconic event still holds true to its roots and maintains its relevancy for today's sailors." says Houston. "While this is undeniably a race, it's equally about savouring the process with your sailing mates and embracing the destination, not solely the journey to reach it."
