Enterprise National Championships at Penzance Sailing Club - Day 2

by Phil Ford 30 May 2023 01:55 PDT 27-31 May 2023

After Sunday's big breeze, the fleet Monday morning looked on as the early indications were for more of the same. The stars of the day however proved to be the Penzance race team, who after initially sending the fleet out in a fickle swinging breeze, returned everyone to shore for a 2 hour postponement and cream tea.

Come 4pm the OOD started the race in a steady F3 easterly, a marked difference from Sunday. Tim Sadler followed Vince Horey round the first mark followed by a gaggle of boats.

Tim and crew Richard Sault took the lead shortly after and stretched out a small but significant gap to take the race win. Behind the pack juggled for position with Nigel and Andy Bird taking second with Vince Horey and Fresh Abendstern third.

Race 4 started shortly after in a dying breeze, the easterly still predominant but with some varying pressure across the race track. Jeremy Williams and crew Elise Wedgewood Clark took the early initiative to lead round the first mark, a position they held throughout for a very popular first championship race win.

Behind, the battle became frenetic down the last run as the breeze died and then shifted to the NE. In a blanket finish, Phil Ford crewed by Jane Humpage managed second closely followed by Tim Sadler, with the leading 10 boats overlapped across the finish line.

At the halfway stage, Nigel and Andy Bird have a narrow lead over Vince Horey with the pack close behind.
