At just over half way in the DF Global Championship at Fleetwood, four heats each have been completed in a stiff north westerly cold wind. As the competitors, race team, and all the helpers enjoy a well-earned lay day, lets reflect and look at the positions up to now.
On Sunday, the wind was mainly westerly almost straight down the lake about 10knots and boats were using their top (A) rig. 4.5 races (16 heats) were completed.
Monday we arrived to a wind in the NNW 15 Knots and setting a reasonable course was almost impossible and racing was postponed under AP flag for about 1 hour. Eventually the wind moved to WNW and we were able to make a start.
3.5 races (14 heats) were completed and after race 8 was completed a second discard was allowed to the scores. The wind increased over the day gusting to 23 knots and B & C rigs were used.
Yesterday (Tuesday) we again sailed in a WNW wind around 15 knots sometimes gusting to 20 knots and five complete races (20 heats) were sailed.
Notable to see the makeup of the top ten is: 2 GBR, 2 USA, 2 SWE, 1 AUS, 1 NOR, 1 FRA, 1 GBR
This is a very international event!
Last night the South African Competitors cooked a BRAAI for everyone and there was much merriment in and around the clubhouse!
