Sport and social commitment in Calasetta
In a month's time, the IFCA Slalom Youth & Junior Windsurfing World Championships will begin in Calasetta (South Sardinia, 5-11 June), with the opening ceremony scheduled to take place in Calasetta's Piazza Belly on the evening of 5 June.
At the moment there are about fifty athletes registered for the rainbow event, mainly from European nations, and they are waiting for Italian and non-European athletes to join them; the deadline for the discounted registration fee, as stipulated in the regatta notice, will expire on 20 May. The Centro Nautico Marinai d'Italia Sant'Antioco, the organiser of the Calasetta Water Sports Festival in which the IFCA World Championship is the most important competitive event, is coordinating the preparation of all the activities, which in over two weeks will involve no less than three sports federations including the Italian Sailing Federation with AICW (Italian Association of Windsurfing Classes), the Italian Water Ski and Wakeboard Federation, and the Italian Canoe Kayak Federation.
The event, which will feature the most popular and trendy water disciplines (windsurfing, SUP, kite, wingfoil, canoe kayak), will begin with the SUP-Stand Up Paddle-Paddleboard competitions, valid for the seventh stage of the Italian Championship category: on 2 June, the Calasetta Water Sports Festival 2023 will be inaugurated by the Technical Race, 2.5 km with departure from the La Salina beach for the under 12 and under 14, Parasup and competitive categories; on 3 June, it will be the turn of the Sprint Race with 200-metre races in a row, with departure and arrival always from the La Salina beach; and on 4 June, the last day of the Italian Championship, the Distance Race of about 12 km is scheduled - marine weather conditions permitting - with start and arrival from La Salina beach in Calasetta and crossing between the island of Sant'Antioco and Carloforte, leaving the two buoys positioned in the stretch of water facing Carloforte on the left.
And during the Calasetta Water Sports Festival, as during the entire summer of the "Centro Nautico Marinai d'Italia Sant'Antioco", it will be a sea without barriers and for everyone, with the involvement of various social cooperatives to include young people in the various sporting events on offer.
Sea, sport, nature, young people, competitive spirit, and social commitment are all set to explode during the Calasetta Water sports Festival, which will have the highlight of the sporting events in the Funboard world championship, but will also include many other initiatives, both promotional, competitive, and social. The event, which enjoys the patronage of the Region of Sardinia and the Municipality of Calasetta, is supported by Carloforte Tonnare, Enel, Gp Immobiliare Iglesias, Sotacarbo, and Acqua San Giorgio, with other brands that are finalising the last details, to enthusiastically join the Calasetta Water Sports Festival 2023 team.
