RYA North West Sailability Series at Leigh & Lowton Sailing Club

by Richard Catchpole 3 May 2023 17:11 HKT 25 April 2023

The first event of the North West Sailability Series was held at Leigh & Lowton SC on Tuesday 25th April. This is the second year this series has been held and attendance shows how popular it is becoming.

A total of 9 sailors arrived for the event from a variety of clubs around the North and North West.

The racing was keen, but there was also great coaching from Alan Jones and Matt Daly on hand for the less experienced, so there was something for everyone. The series is combined with the NW Senior Traveller Series making it a great day out for the sailors racing alongside each other.

All the competitors were in Hansas, either single or double handed (handicapped accordingly), and enjoyed the light but sunny and at times excellent conditions.

Rory McKenna (Clyde) put in a great performance to take the event, but was pushed very hard by Ben Foulsham (Lancaster Uni), with the double handed combination of Saskia Hough & Scot Green (Bolton) coming in a creditable 3rd.

We look forward to the next event of the series at Bolton Sailing Club on Tuesday 6th June. Boats are available for any extra competitors that may wish to join.

Overall Results:

1st - Rory McKenna (Clyde Cruising Club)
2nd - Ben Foulsham (Lancaster University)
3rd - Saskia Hough & Scot Green (Bolton)
4th - Laura Grayless & John Moulton (Bolton)
5th - Linnhe Harrison (Blackwell) 6th - Sally Wallace & Matthew Blue (Bolton)
