Laurent Hay, from France, remains the Finn World No 1 following six more counting events since the last release in October 2022. European champion Miguel Fernandez Vasco, from Spain, moves up 29 places to second while Bas de Waal, from the Netherlands remains in third.

The second release of the new Finn World Ranking List includes the 2022 Australian Nationals, won by Ian Mckillop, from James Bevis and Marcus Whitley as well as the 2023 Australian Nationals, which was narrowly won by Class President Rob McMillan, from Brit Cameron Tweedle and Kiwi, Mark Perrow.

This release also includes the 2022 International Finn Cup in Malcesine, which attracted a huge 70 entries. Swiss, Christoph Burger, won from Australia's Anthony Nossiter and Alessandro Marega, from Italy. Burger climbs from 20th to 10th.

Just before the containers left for the Finn Gold Cup in Miami, the 2022 Portuguese Nationals were held in Cascais. Peter Peet from The Netherlands, won from Portugal's Nuno es Silva and Australia's Paul McKenzie.

Then it was onto Miami for the 2023 Finn Gold Cup where Ed Wright, from Britain, took his second world title. Domonkos Nemeth, from Hungary, took second, with Miguel Fernandez Vasco in third.

Fresh from a fourth place at the Gold Cup, Laurent Hay, returned home and cleaned up in Cannes, winning from Spain's David Terol and Bas de Waal. It was one of the largest turnouts for this traditional European season starter with 72 entries.

Release 002 of the Finn World Ranking now includes 1,115 Finn sailors from 38 countries.

Several corrections have been made from the initial release and there have also been a few small tweaks to the calculations to fine tune the process, so some points will have changed to reflect this. This release is also using some events for the second time, so some 2022 events are now scored at 50 per cent.

However, it's still early days and could take a full two years for many sailors to get to minimum five events, so the true picture is yet to emerge. Other big movers include Michael Audoin, from France, who moves from 82nd to seventh after a 14th at the Gold Cup and a fourth in Cannes, which gives him five events. Meanwhile Marko Kolic climbs from 144th to 23rd.

The Finn World Ranking list uses the events on the World Tour for Finns which includes around 50 events worldwide. Points are given based on type of event, competitive weighting and number of boats attending. A Euro Tour based on the same system is being developed.

The next release is expected in June following the European Championship at Csopak on Lake Balaton and the Finn World Masters Kavala two weeks later.
