39° Primo Cup 2023 at Yacht Club de Monaco - Overall

by Alexander Panzeri 5 Mar 2023 23:10 PST 2-5 March 2023

Last day has started inside the club, visiting first another new "facility" the sailing loft by Quantum where the team was happy to be not busy, meaning the sails were not damaged; the second station the Race Officers room, where after the daily briefing, I spent time following Umpire review of RRS18.4 (very important in the fleet like J70, inside outside the zone) and how manage the fleet of Jury too, after it I spent sometime with the team of Velamania, we have to keep under the spotlight, we will hear more from them.

After the miracle of yesterday, the sailing team of Monaco has made to race today even 2 races, in light East breeze on the east side of the bay (probably my favorite on the water from the RIB for it's skyline: from the royals Villas in Roquebrune Cap Martin to the skyscrapers of the new Monaco).

And it has been regale also today VAMOS MI AMOR in hammer time mode, no-one could bite this lady! While the family affair has finished with the new generation in front to the patriarca and his external support of the sailor-star Tommaso Chieffi. (note: 1 DNS; 1 OCS; 2 UFD, are the penalty reported; Jury on water not listed here)

Similar story for the Longtze Premier class, where SHENSU has scored a perfect regatta with an astonishing performance (on the first race the gap was so big, that the crew was in cruise mode at the dog-leg mark), discharging a first place. Unluckily OUTSIDER had a OCS in the first race of the day and this has close the door to the 2nd. This class also has its family with an orange hull where the crew is composed by all family, from grand parent to the small young nephew, did you see the pict yesterday?(note: this OCS has been the only penalty reported at the end; Jury on water not listed here).

The J70 class is another story, that remind me all the occasions lost on the lake, if you race, race till the end! No matter how much you are safe!

With the UFD to start the day GSpot had paid a huge price that was in the bag since the first race (11 point), she lost the leadership for 6 points (un vero peccato, what a pity), but this is sailing!!! (note: 1 DSQ; 1 UFD are the penalty reported; Jury on water not listed here).

The J70 today has lost again the informal performance challenge: not only Smeralda has bite their tail but also some Longtze Premier has overtake many boats.

But they weren't the only, our electrons have been knocked down: on the upwind leg we used about 1-2% of battery (lets say 6[kts]), while with just 1, I repete one, running back a bit fast on the down wind, the system has lost 10% of power (about 15[kts] I will extract real GPS data later at home); taking in consideration the need to do others 2 much faster run to-from the port (to bring back video team) and the actual protection limit-procedure for the battery (under about 20% if I remember correctly the speed is limited to 4[kts], and I totally agree with the driver on the safety concerns to handling the boat in this environment), my day of shooting ended quite early. Good the club to be brave and take all action to protect the world and advance, but not good for the VITA Power boat, or at least for shooting activities (and second, please a better bow to protect from sprays and waves, cameras and lenses hate water).

However, carpe diem, be at the port earlier, it has given me the opportunity to shoot some images of the post regatta race: the race to be first to be crane, what a show with spinnakers...

This my journey to come back on the field looks good (confirmation will arrive next days after the x-ray exam of control, I hope last), and I closed the day sharing an Apple pie and pastries with colleagues and "old" members of the staff to celebrate the 10th anniversary on the field (it was the J24 EU Championship and some month later the last regatta of J24 at Primo Cup).

At the end, if you sail, you must be at Primo Cup by YCM!!
