OptiOrange international Optimist class regatta at Real Club Nautico Valencia - Day 2

by RCNV Press 4 Mar 2023 06:32 PST 2-5 March 2023

Once again the wind has arrived late to the regatta area 'Manel Casanova', with a postponement on land of more than two hours. After launching for the first race at 14.00 hours the wind had been maintained in direction and intensity, 225º between 8-9 knots.

With the three races today plus the three from yesterday, the qualifying round is closed, with the discard coming into play, which has caused an important change in the results, both positive and negative. The Gold, Silver, Bronze, Emerald and Pearl groups are defined for the next two days.

The Catalan Joan Domingo (CN Cambrils) takes over from the Andalusian Leo Zabell (CNM Benalmádena). In the green group Domingo scored 1-1-2, adding 7 points after taking off that tenth place achieved in the first race yesterday. Zabel, meanwhile, despite the three wins yesterday, today with scores of 4-10-3 in the yellow group has not maintained that first place, as ahead is Ignacio Fernandez (CN Puerto Sherry), competing with the reds, hitting a 3-1-1.

In the women's results, Blanca Ferrando (RCN Valencia) has shown her best side, in very favorable wind conditions for her. The Valencian closes and seals her pass to the final series with 2-5-1, competing in the blue group. Ferrando has 14 points, the same as the two ahead of her: the Swedish Alexander Forssen and Mateo Carbonell (CN Jávea). The

Polish Antonina Dziekanska is second, first in SUB13, while Agnès Hadzi Janev Rosa (CN El Balís) is third in the women's category.

In the SUB13 category the provisional podiums are closed with Antonina Dziekanska, followed by Marta Ferrando (RCN de Valencia) Inés Mendez Larminaux from Puerto Rico. As for the boys, podium for the Turkish Mehmet Erkut Budak accompanied by the British Jonny Rogers and the Estonian Robert Matt.
