16-19 February 2023
The sailor of the RCN of Torrevieja, Ascension Roca approaches the women's title.
The equality is maximum in the European championship of the Europe class. The third day closes with three races completed, one day of competition and two races left in the program. The Swedish Jonathan Llado Krensler arrives to this last race with a single point of advantage over the Catalan Daniel Cabré (CN Masnou), only one point separates him from the title and in between two pending races in which anything can happen.
In this third installment in the RCN of Torrevieja, with good wind conditions, stable 8 to 12 knots of intensity and staying in the 040º the protagonists have had one of lime and one of sand. Llado has sealed partials of 2-1-4 while Cabré closes the day with 1-3-6. The difference in this last race was that while the Swede was fourth, the Catalan was two behind. The first already had a worse result, marked in the second test yesterday Friday with a fifth, while the Masnou that position achieved in the last test has left him out of first place. Another difference between them, Llado has four partial wins to the Catalan's two.
The rest of the numbers are more or less equal between them and that equality has also been reflected in each of the disputed tests. Both have so far shown their best version, adapting very well to a very complicated race course, due to the current and the swell. The tactical decisions have been key and both have been able to take them to the site.
Ascensión Roca (RCN Torrevieja), is third overall and is the first female of the table. The local sailor is far behind the two above, with 32 points, but has in his favor 8 points ahead of the fourth in the table: Alberto Antón, from the same Club. His 5-5-7 record almost mathematically assures him the European women's title. Antón, on the other hand, with a 7-14-1 record, has a lot in his favor and is only depending on himself to win the bronze medal.
Denmark's Klaus Rønn Madsen is in fifth place with 47 points. His score today was 13-10-8. He has a chance to climb the podium and beat Antón for the bronze medal, but behind him Pere Rentería (CN Masnou) has 49 points, one less than Alejandro Pareja (RCN Torrevieja).
The top ten closes with Ignacio Toronjo (RCMT Punta Umbria) 53 points, followed by Frenchman Cyril Richard with 54 and Danish Joergen Mohr with 60, almost without options to improve that tenth place.
Tomorrow, Sunday, February 19th, the fourth and last day of the European Championship in the Europe class, with two races scheduled. For the moment, the program of scheduled races has been completed: 2-3-3.
