After a week of intense racing on Sydney Harbour, Will Sargent and his team from the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia have prevailed with the winning title of the Hardy Cup Sydney International Match-Racing Regatta 2023.
Sargent has an impressive record of back-to-back Hardy Cup wins, competing in Tapper's team last year, bringing the CYCA's total to four regatta titles in a row.
Max Paul and his team claimed second place representing the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron in the final. Josh Hyde and his team from the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron claimed third overall after winning the petite final against Robbie McCutcheon.
Yesterday afternoon's temperamental weather made for challenging racing, with a thunderstorm wreaking havoc just after the finals. Sargent and his team looked relieved to be back on dry land.
"Today went pretty well for us. We came in with the goal of trying to win the regatta, which we've managed to pull off back-to-back. It was pretty tough out there, but we are happy to come away with a win," he said.
"A big thank you to RSYS for hosting the event and our coach Jordan Reece for supporting us throughout the regatta."
Thank you to Sir James Hardy OBE, the generous volunteers, the umpires and Race Committee.
Thank you to Claudia Thackray for her efforts as the Hardy Cup Event Coordinator.
The Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron looks forward to welcoming teams back next year to the 2024 Hardy Cup.
