After a relaxing lay day on the tropical shores of Grenada, a northeasterly trade wind prevailed as boats gathered for a 9am start off the southern coast of Prickly Bay. Livelier winds with gusts of 20 knots were welcomed for the multiple shorter races around the cans. The CSA 1 and CSA 2 boats raced three courses, while the rest raced two, though the Classics may have been a little too relaxed after the lay day, as Glacier and Savvy both showed up to the start line late.
For the third race day in a row Jean Michel Figueres's Maisons Satec took line honors with an elapsed time of 59:37, though they placed fourth in their CSA 1 class after corrected time. Tristan Marmousez's GFA Caraibes - La Morrigaine placed first, and Richard Szyjan's Hobie 33, Category 5, was back on the leaderboard after a DSQ yesterday with second place.
Chris Wood's Nautor Swan 48, Assuage, placed first in the CSA 2 course, and Judd Tinius's Galatea took her first win for the Classics class. Robbie Yearwood's Spirit of Everest has been no stranger to first place and was again at the top for the Multihull class, and in the Simplified class John McMonigall's Zig Zag was at the top of the board once again.
The second set of races of the day began as the horn blew for the CSA 2 class, followed by CSA 1. Shortly thereafter the CSA 2 boats were recalled to restart due to a shifting mark, and this time were off without a hitch. Assuage continues to dominate the leaderboard for CSA 2, and in an unusual event, the top two CSA 1 boats, Category 5 and GFA Caraibes - La Morrigaine tied with exact same corrected times.
The last race of the day for all classes brought racers around Point Saline for a long upwind sail into Grand Anse, Grenada's premiere beach location with turquoise waters and two miles of silky white sand.
Zig Zag once again dominated the Simplified class, and The Blue Peter rallied for a first place among the Classics. Diane and David Slater secured their first top spot of the regatta aboard Delphine, and it was no surprise to see Assuage take first place for CSA 2.
Corrected times were tight in CSA 1 with GFA Caraibes - La Morrigaine just over two minutes behind Maisons Satec.
It was a busy afternoon at the protest desk though, and a record number - 11 to be exact - filed in throughout the afternoon and evening, each being given due diligence and postponing the prize-giving. Notably, four boats in the CSA 2 class were disqualified for not properly following the Sailing Instructions.
