Next weekend wraps the Florida series of the 2023 US Open Sailing Series (which debuted in this iteration in 2021 but builds off the success of popular Olympic Class Regattas (OCRs) prior to 2021).

There's a lot on the line for athletes in Florida as the Clearwater US Open will conclude selection procedures* for:

  • the 2023 Olympic Test Event
    • Only one entry per class per country
    • If USA athletes place on the podium (top 3) at this event they will achieve "early selection" and will be nominated to represent Team USA at the Paris 2024 Olympics
    • If an athlete or team does not place in the top 3 at the 2023 Olympic Test Event, the class will move to "Late Selection" - read more here
  • the 2023 Pan American Games
    • Only one entry per class per qualified country
    • In select classes, serves as country qualifier for the Paris 2024 Games. More details HERE
  • the automatic USA priority entry at the 2023 Sailing World Championships
    • Additional entries will be allotted around mid-March from World Sailing (based on 2022 World Championships results and World Rankings as of December 31, 2022)
    • Serves as country qualifier for the Paris 2024 Games. More details HERE
    • Contributes to the participating athletes' World Rankings

Please note: speaking publicly about the Trials is a sensitive subject as the word "Trials" is a protected property by the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee. Please reach out for assistance on wording if you want to talk about what's ahead. ()

More information on the complete selection procedures for all above events and the Paris 2024 Olympics can be found here: https://www.ussailing.org/olympics/selection/

* 49er FX and Nacra 17 are not using the US Opens as selection events for the above events and will instead use a combination of the Princess Sofia Regatta and French Olympic Week.
