XV Euromarina Optimist Torrevieja - Day 3

by Prensa Sailing Comunicación 28 Jan 2023 12:04 PST 26-29 January 2023

The penultimate day of the international Optimist regatta closes with the three races scheduled under very good wind conditions.

In the SUB13, the Finnish Sami Hietalahti and the Valencian Marta Ferrando occupy the first place in their category.

The Euromarina Optimist Torrevieja 2023 reaches its final stretch. Today has closed the third day, the first of the final series and does so with Spain leading the fleet of 436 sailors registered. On the one hand the Catalan Joan Domingo (CN Cambrils), leader in the overall and Gold Group, while the Valencian Blanca Ferrando (RCN Valencia) holds one more day at the top of the women's table.

A Spanish dominance in this international event, in the framework of the Optimist Excellen Cup, which has continuity in the SUB13 category, since Marta Ferrando (RCN Valencia) is first. In the boys, change of leader, being now the Finnish Sami Hietalahti who occupies the first position.

A third day marked by these very good wind conditions, allowing the race committee to close quickly the three races planned, both for the Gold, Silver, Bronze and Pearl group. Wind from the Northwest (NW) with 12-15 knots maintained in almost all the race, except in the last stages of the Pearl group in the last race that was already losing strength.

The Catalan Domingo started well, with an eighth place after a good start. In the next two races he stepped on the accelerator from the start. In the second race of the day the partial triumph was comfortable, while in the last one he had to work a little more to sign his second partial triumph of the day. With this, the sailor from Cambrils is left with 20 points, by 26 that has the Ukrainian Sviatoslav Madonich and 31.7 that counts the Croatian Bepo Duplancic.

As for the Valencian, Blanca did not start the day on the right foot, with a result nothing expected for her and her interests in the regatta. A very discreet 73 signed the representative of the RCN of Valencia. After that partial not good, she put the batteries and after a second race very worked concluded the 19th at the finish line. She finished the day with a brilliant 11th place.

The Valencian has an important cushion in the table, as the Croatian Ema Grabar has 86, while the Spanish Martina Gomila (CN S'Arenal) is third with 99 points.

In the U13 provisional podium with Spanish color in the women's category. Next to Marta Ferrando (172 points) are Begoña Pérez (CN Jávea), with 208 points, and Valentina Belso (RCN Torrevieja) from Torrevieja, who has 252 points.

Tomorrow Sunday, January 29th, fourth and last day of the XV Euromarina Optimist Trophy Torrevieja, second of the final round. The top of departure to the first race of the day returns to its official program, not advanced, being at 10.00 am the start of the day's races.
