The Laguardia and Moreira team skippered by Gonzalo Araújo, was the winner of the third series of the Villalia J/70 Winter Series held last weekend in Vigo.

In addition, this new victory enables Araújo's team to maintain in the overall winter series.

Just one point back was the young Canarian Jorge Martínez Doreste on his HANG-TEN CSI. Behind them in third place was Sancho Páramo and Pablo Iglesias' NACUA SOGACSA. The balance of the top five was Guillermo Alonso Santoro's SENECA SW in fourth and Luis Perez Canal's ABRIL VERDE in fifth position.

The regatta had plenty of wind on the first day and too much on Sunday. A huge storm offshore forced the cancellation on Sunday.

On the first day, nice gentle breezes blew into the Vigo estuary that allowed four races to be held. The wind blew eight knots from the west for the first race. After three general recalls (!), the race took place with Araújo prevailing and Guillermo Alonso surprised everyone taking his SENECA SW to second place, third was Luis Martín Cabiedes' NOTICIA.

For the next two races, the wind maintained the same direction and strength. Doreste's HANG-TEN CSI won the second race, while Ramon Ojea's PAZO DE CEA took the third race.

In the final race of the day, the wind gradually subsided to 6 kts, but enough to complete the race. Winning was Luis Bugallo's MARNATURA I.

As a result, the provisional J/70 Villalia Winter Series overall standings are:

  1. LAGUARDIA & MOREIRA- 33 points
  2. NACUA SOGACSA- 44 points
  3. ABRIL VERDE- 53 points
  4. ABRIL ROJO- 55 points
  5. PAZO DE CEA- 60 points
