Last weekend the third event of the Barcelona J/70 Winter Series was held in the waters of Barcelona. There are 14 teams from 5 different nations sailing the five-event series.

After three days of sailing, a total of ten races were held, despite the fact the wind was quite varied both in direction and intensity from 5 to 12 kts all weekend.

The first day of racing ended with Jorge Doreste's HANG TEN as the leader with only 4 points after a 3-1-1 tally. They were followed by the Polish ELESSAR 2 with 9 points (4-2-3) who was tied with the TENAZ team (Pablo Garriga with Rayco Tabares on tactics and Alex Muscat helming with a 1-3-5 record).

The next day, despite the cold, the sun and the wind made an appearance in the Catalan capital, which facilitated the four planned races. Once again, we saw changes at the top of the leaderboard.

At the end of the day, Gustavo del Castillo's CLINICAS W fell to fifth place. Those who did not fall were TENAZ, who climbed from third to first place with 1-4-5-1 finishes. Moving into second was HANG TEN with a 4-5-3-4 tally. Then, NOTICIA had the most impressive comebacks on the water with a 2-3-2-3 to leap into a tie for second place.

Sunday dawned cold in Barcelona. Anything could still happen in the leading positions, as three races were enough to score points on your rivals.

The best teams on the last day were CLINICAS W with a 6-2-1 and NOTICIA with a 1-3-5. As a result, in the ten-race, no throw-out series, Pablo Garriga's TENAZ took the regatta win with 23 pts. After their slow start, Luis Martin Cabiedes' NOTICIA took the silver with 25 pts, followed by Dario Alvardeo/ Jorge Martinez Doreste's HANG TEN with the bronze with 27 pts.

After the third event in the five-regatta series, the leader is currently TENAZ with 51 pts, followed by NOTICIA with 62 pts, and CLINICAS in third with 78 pts.

For the next scheduled series, new teams from Holland, Norway, Sweden, Germany, England, Poland, and Andorra have already confirmed their participation with a forecast between 17 and 20 boats.

The J/70 season continues in Spain. Next weekend (December 17-18) will be the third event of the Villalia Winter Series in Vigo, and during each month two regattas will be held, one in Barcelona and one in Vigo. When spring arrives the calendar intensifies with more than 10 regattas to be held in Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, and Vigo.
