It was a fine evening on Friday for the start of the Audi Centre Sydney BWPS Cabbage Tree Island Race, with just over 70 yachts reaching down Sydney Harbour and out to sea, just before the sun started to set.
Black Jack chose the western shore and held more breeze to lead the fleet out through the Heads. Eventually Andoo Comanche assumed the lead, led the fleet around Cabbage Tree Island and came home to take Line Honours early this morning (Saturday).
Fortunately, none of the fleet leaving the harbour encountered the large Sunfish that was cruising quietly across the Heads with just its fin above the water!
It was something of an overnight sprint for the Supermaxis in the Audi Centre BWPS Cabbage Tree Island Race, which started at 7pm last night on Sydney Harbour. Andoo Comanche took Line Honours crossing the finish line off Watsons Bay this morning at 7.19am, followed by Law Connect, with Black Jack and Hamilton Island Wild Oats XI battling tack-for-tack into the harbour and up to the finish line; Black Jack eventually winning that battle.
The tussle for 3rd & 4th place in the supermaxis was a tightly fought tacking battle down the coast between Black Jack & Hamilton Island Wild Oats which didn't end until both boats were close to the finish line. In the end there were only 59 seconds between them.
