It was a testing start for the fleet in the CYCA's Bird Island BWPS Race on Saturday, with a light nor'easter taking the fleet down the Harbour, before fading away, leaving many in the fleet parked at the Harbour entrance for a couple of hours. Meantime andoo Comanche returned to the Harbour, retiring with a hydraulics problem.

When the forecast light sou'easter finally kicked in the fleet began to make progress north. At the front Black Jack made good ground, rounding Bird Island at around 4pm and finishing back in Sydney just before 7.40pm this evening.

A number of yachts have retired owning to time limits, but at 10pm Saturday evening tail-ender Gun Runner was still heading north off Terrigal. Based on her speed at that time her crew would be better not to read her forecast ETA in Sydney!

Despite the light breeze, the fine weather made for some colourful images at the start.
