The city of São Luís Maranhão in the north of Brazil, is hosting the Pan American Formula Kite Championships from 7th to 13th of November

The event will be hosted at Olho D'Água Beach and apart from being the combined continental championship for North and South America, it will qualify athletes for the 2023 PanAmerican Games in Santiago, Chile.

The event will bring together well known faces of kiteboarding from all over the world, including French riders Lauriane Nolot, 2022 European Champion and 2021 World Champion Theo De Ramecourt as well as 2022 Asian Champion Maximillian Maeder from Singapore. The host country will be represented by Bruno Lobo, double Pan-American champion, Maria Socorro Reis and Lucas Fonseca.

Rogério Luna from local organizer Ocean Kite Point, considers the event an opportunity to establish São Luís, the capital of Maranhão, as a top level kite foiling destination. "Having the Formula Kite Pan American here opens doors for Maranhão and Brazil", he emphasizes.

According to Luna, São Luís, with Olho D'Água Beach within the city center, offers in addition to good winds and warm waters, the possibility of urban sailing. "This is practical for the riders and brings kiteboarding close to the general audience" he says.

Registrations for the Pan American Formula Kite Championship are now open and can be done until 5 pm on November 4, on the website: okp.com.br.

The Pan American Formula Kite Championship is organized by the International KiteSurf Association (IKA) and Ocean Kite Point, with support from the Brazilian Sailing Confederation (CBVela) and the Brazilian Kitesurf Association (ABK).
