Oliver Heer on his IMOCA Oliver Heer Ocean Racing will participate in the 12th edition of the infamous Route Du Rhum Race from St Malo France to Guadeloupe. (The start date has been postponed to 9th November 2022.)

Oliver will join 137 other sailors to embark on this incredible race across the Atlantic. With unsettled lows building in the Atlantic, and no established trade winds, it looks like Ollie's first solo Atlantic will deliver its challenges.

The team objective for the race is to finish mid-fleet amongst the IMOCAs and show the sailing world both the boat and the sailor have what it takes to participate alongside some of the world's best offshore solo sailors.

"It is absolutely amazing to be at the start of the route Du Rhum and to participate in my first solo Atlantic crossing. I feel that I have a good boat for the weather challenges coming and what may come in the next few days and my technical and shore team have done an amazing job to make sure I am race ready"

Currently, all teams have eyes on the weather and with some models showing gusts of up to 60 knots, Ollie is spending his last few days ashore running the routings with renowned metrologist Libby Greenhalgh, as well as having online coaching sessions with extreme sports mental performance coach DR.Wolfgang Jenewein.

Despite the program being in its infancy, the Oliver Heer Ocean Racing team is strong and is paving a solid foundation for the future. This week Ollie has surrounded himself with a strong number of individuals who are no stranger to the IMOCA world and high-pressure race starts. Both team members Andrew Cooper & Patrick Condy worked with Ollie previously at Alex Thomson's HUGO BOSS, and the team is been managed by the experienced hand of Marcus Hutchinson who has a background in Americas Cup and IMOCA and is enjoying working within this new team to steer ollie to success.
