Davis Island Yacht Club is proud to host the 2022 2.4mR World Championship and Para Sailing International Championship Regatta November 5-11, 2022. The event has drawn 41 sailors and their coaches from Finland, the US, Canada, Italy, Puerto Rico, South Korea, the UK, Australia, and Guatemala.

The 2.4mR is described as a "one-person keelboat for all," designed to be "the most inclusive sailing boat available," regardless gender, physical strength, or age. Competitors at this year's event include both able-bodied and para sailors.

The boat harks back to the golden age of yacht racing with classic lines calling to mind America's Cup 12-meter boats. Established in 1993, the modern 2.4mR is just under 14 feet long, with 81 square feet of sail area, and draws 39 inches with a large bulb keel for stability.

The Davis Island Yacht Club is home to numerous regattas over the year, as well as providing a open-to-the-public summer learn-to-sail camp for youngsters and the opportunity for newcomers to try sailing during the daylight-savings-timed Thursday Night series.

The Regatta will open on Sunday, November 6, at the Davis Island Yacht Club, with a ceremonial welcome from Kathy Castor and Bob Buckhorn at 3 pm.

A practice race will be held on Monday at 2 pm, with the competition officially beginning on Tuesday, November 8 through Friday, November 11, with the first start each day at 10 am. The boats will sail on a set course around inflatable buoys, and as many as 10 individual races to make up the regatta. The vessels return to harbor each afternoon.

The action can be observed from the Davis Island Seaplane Basin Park and the water. Support boats are requested to register with the organizers and all vessels are asked to keep clear of the racing area.
