Melbourne's Classic Yacht Cup Regatta Day One

by A. J. McKinnon 29 Oct 2022 14:22 PDT 29-31 October 2022

Alex McKinnon was out on the water today for the Classic Yacht Association of Australia (CYAA) 2022 Cup Regatta hosted by Royal Yacht Club of Victoria. The last time this regatta was held was in 2019, so it was great to be back on the water.

14 boats, across three divisions took part in today’s racing on Port Phillip. The wind remained between 15-20 knots for most of the day with a few fronts just to make sure everyone was paying attention. The wind started Westerly and then shifting NW in the early afternoon. There were two races today round fixed marks with the race committee providing competitors with a beat to the first mark and the finish.

Two more races are scheduled for tomorrow with the winds predicted to be lighter, ahead of a strong change later in the day.
