The Coast Guard Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to strengthening the Coast Guard community and service by supporting members and families, announced today the Texas Salutes the Coast Guard event will be held Friday, November 4 at Marriott Marquis Houston, 1777 Walker Street in Houston. The event, which includes a reception and dinner, will begin at 6 p.m.
Now in its seventh year, Texas Salutes the Coast Guard brings together Coast Guard leaders, industry executives, congressional and government officials, and Coast Guard supporters for a night of patriotic fanfare. Last year, the dinner and reception included 400 Coast Guard Foundation supporters and raised more than $1 million for programs that support Coast Guard members and families.
The evening will highlight the missions and service of Coast Guard members in Texas and the Gulf Coast and include a special award for heroism to a Coast Guard crew that rescued nine people from a burning oil rig in Sabine Pass, Texas, last February. The reception will also underscore the importance of regional industries, maritime transportation, and port activities to Houston, Texas, and the nation.
Commandant of the Coast Guard Admiral Linda Fagan, Eighth Coast Guard District Commander Rear Admiral Richard Timme and Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston Commander Captain Jason Smith are scheduled to attend along with local Coast Guard personnel.
"We are excited to return to Houston for our annual Texas Salutes the Coast Guard event," said Susan Ludwig, president, Coast Guard Foundation. "Always a fun evening, this year's reception and dinner will highlight the professionalism and dedication of Coast Guard members in the region and the vital part they play in the lives of mariners in the Gulf Coast."
The dinner is sponsored in part by Cheniere, Chevron, Conoco Phillips, Kirby Corporation, Marathon Petroleum and SeaRiver Maritime.
