The first weekend of October is the traditional opener for the Team Racing Season, which will run through to next Easter and the BUCS Finals followed by the Wilson Trophy in May. There will be events most weekends during this period, with a short break for Christmas.

Sailing will resume in January, starting with the RYA Womens Team Racing Champs at Rutland. The RYA is supporting Team Racing with a series of seminars on the subject, full details of which can be found at: www.rya.org.uk/news/online-knowledge-series-launched (The first is at 6.30 on 4th Oct.)

The 2022 opening weekend saw two schools events taking place. The British Schools Dinghy Racing Association Midland Championships were sailed at Oxford Sailing Club on Saturday with 11 teams taking part. At the end of the 49 races sailed the winners were Rutland Sailing Club with a 100% win record. Magdalen College Black were second and Oakham School third.

Meanwhile, at Burton SC the National School Sailing Association Singlehanded Team Racing Championships were underway. This is sailed over the whole weekend as a Wilson Swiss League which comprised well over 100 races, followed by the knock out stages of semi finals and finals.

The Semi Finals saw Lancs B and Royal Hospital School going through to the Finals. With the wind dying it was the Royal Hospital School Sailing Academy which emerged as winners of the Britannia Trophy.
