New ICE Yachts 62 Targa nominated for European Yacht of the Year Award

The new ICE 62 TARGA premiered at the recent Cannes Yachting Festival to rave reviews. This remarkable yacht was nominated for this prestigious award in the category of best luxury cruiser.

The ICE 62 Targa is an authentic, high-quality, fast luxury cruiser with distinctive flare, sophistication and elegance. Designed by revered Italian Naval Architect Umberto Felci, this new model oozes class, refinement and luxury and features a striking carbon roll bar with T top bimini, beautiful lines and clean and uncluttered decks.

Construction

This ICE 62 Targa is perfectly suited for those looking to sail short handed in maximum comfort on a fast and exceptionally well built yacht. The boat weighs 19.9 tons, 25% less than the average boat in the same category; has almost 220 m2 of upwind sail area and great stability thanks to the shape and the displacement/keel ratio.

The hull and deck of the boat are laminated with a sandwich infusion technique using a glass-carbon fibre composite material and PVC foam core with different densities and thicknesses which has been chosen as it allows to sustain several strains. The use of a 3-step infusion process (infusion on the outer skin, vacuum bonded Corel infusion on the inner skin) has been chosen because it allows obtaining optimal control of the laminate.

The localized reinforcements are made with unidirectional and biaxial carbon fibre beams. The structures (bulkheads and floors) are either longitudinal or traverse and are made of glass-carbon fibre with PVC foam cores at various densities all entire vacuum sandwich is laminated in epoxy.

This construction method, along with limiting weight where possible ensure for a yacht that is solid, strong and able to withstand the repeated stresses and heavy loads exerted when seeking pure performance when sailing in the most challenging conditions.

The chainplates of shrouds, forestay, and backstay are composite and steel made. This modern design is marked by a reversal bow (scimitar shape), with a carbon bowsprit of 1.3 meters and, twin rudders and a draft with variable depth from 2.85 to 3.80 meters made possible by a hydraulic lifting system allowing to easily switch from racing mode to cruising mode.

On deck

The deck takes from the recent projects of Felci Yacht Design, combining simplicity and style with technology and efficiency.

The helm positions are specifically set forward to provide excellent visability and access to the mainsheet for control. The entire cockpit is clean and uncluttered and purposely oversized incorporating large bench seating with backrests and optional dining table. The transom can be opened up to provide as lounge for sun bathing, clad in teak and also provides access to the spacious garage designed to hold a tender with rigid keel of 3.1 meters without deflating it. In the garage, two electric winches/hooks are arranged for the opening of the hatch and the tender movement.

The mast and boom come standard in carbon and can also be equipped with a very efficient electric in boom mainsail roller keeping effort to a minimum when hoisting the sail. For sheeting and halyards the yacht comes standard with five electric winches, electric mainsail traveller, electric genoa furler, bow thruster, and dodger.

Below deck

Below decks the ICE 62 Targa is every thing you could dream a yacht could be. The sheer luxury, refinement and Italian style is abound below decks, with clean lines and exquisite craftsmanship to produce an exceedingly pleasant space to enjoy extend time in when cruising.

The 62 Targa is available in two versions with three or four cabins, three heads, owners cabin and skipper cabin. All areas are well ventilated and abundant storage throughout. The style is modern with extensive use of solid timber finishes.
