Doyle Sails Swedish Moth National Championship - Day 1

by Swedish Moth Association 17 Sep 2022 23:47 PDT 16-18 September 2022

The first day of racing of the Doyle Sails Swedish Moth Championships brought strong and gusty northerly winds of 15-20 knots. It was Phil Robertson who lead the charge on the fleet, winning 3 from 4 races.

The chasing pack was lead by Dave Gilmour and the next 10 boats are grouped tightly on points with Danny Inkyov and Sam Gilmour currently fighting for the final podium spot. When the discards come into play it should mix things up a little with some sailors carrying a few high scores.

The surprise of the day was Tom Johnson. He missed the first 3 races as he was still rigging his brand new Exploder, but made it out for the final race where he gave Phil Robertson a good fight for the lead and narrowly missed out on taking the win.

Post racing the sailors had a BBQ and beers on the dock, displaying the camaraderie and great culture that the Moth class provides.

Sunday's racing is looking to be on the lighter side with 8 knots of wind forecast, which could see a change in the pecking order as all the racing and lead up so far has been on the upper limit.
