Burnham Week 2022 - Day 6

by Sally Harbott 1 Sep 2022 12:01 PDT 27 August - 3 September 2022

After the AP over A flew yesterday (day 5) for all racing at Burnham it was great to get back out on the water today (day 6). Cruisers started down river at Pile House and the dayboats were up river from the Burnham Sailing Club.

The cruisers in class 1 went down river going up the Roach first before heading down to Inner Crouch and Holliwell twice.

Digger Harden, Richard Oram and Mike Schbeidau's Jackal finished first on the water but were unable to save their time on the two lower rated boats. Cezanne, Philip Collard won by 16 seconds from Lizzie Brown in Slipstream. Mantra had retired with a jib track breakage.

The Dragons raced right up to Crossrail on the way up to Fambridge past Althorne coming back to Cliff twice before a third loop of Crossrail Canewdon. Ian Gray won in Still Crazy with Peter Marchant's Beauty and the Beast second. Overall, Still Crazy leads with two bullets from Beauty and the Beast on 5 points.

The squibs did Cliff Crossrail twice and Mickey Wright in Spoof won with Jono Brown King Cnut second and Lady Penelope Malcolm Hutchings thirds. Spoof leads on count back from Jono Brown both on three points. Lady Penelope is in third four points behind on 7.

The RCODs again had two races and the course was the same for both, the boats going to Cliff Canewdon. Justin Waples in Cormorant won both races today and leads Corinna, Martin Makey on count back. Both are counting two firsts and a second, Cormorant's win the most recent.

The RBODs did Cliff Canewdon twice twelve started and at the front of the fleet Amanda, David Smith, won by just one second from Stephen Herring's Red Jacket. Mandarin, Will Dallimore took third a couple of minutes behind the leaders but only 7 seconds ahead of Simon Hollington in Beryl who managed to beat fifth placed Ariel by 9 seconds.

This race showed one design racing at its absolute best! Amanda leads from Red Jacket in second Mandarin and Beryl are both on 7 with Mandarin ahead on countback.

Tomorrow sees the cruiser classes up river and the day boats back down river.
