Burnham Week 2022 Day 3

Sunshine and a good breeze for day 3 and very similar courses were set for the classes giving excellent tactical foul tide beats, cross tide legs and long spinnaker runs and reaches.
The Multihulls started and headed off to the Outer Crouch area doing OC 4, 1, 4 before tacking downwind all the way back up to the committee boat at Pile House. Origami won today giving Nick Wood the weekend win.
Class One as always sailing at close quarters dived up under the North Shore for the first beat and today Slipstream went aground and the crew worked quickly to get her off but not before she had been passed by some of the fleet. Jackal helmed by Flynn Davis was leading in the beat and rounded their second mark Holliwell just ahead of Paul Trueman's Exile. Slipstream rounded third with Mantra fourth and the 707 Cezanne fifth.
Class five went up the Roach and Daryl Mylroie in Eclipse rounded Rubber Ball first with Helm's Deep and Ophelia together just behind. After Jubilee they headed down river and on the run back Eclipse came up first flying her big white spinnaker followed by Helms Deep, Ophelia and Grace and Danger who had closed the gap on the second and third legs.
On corrected time Grace and Danger won from Eclipse. Stephen Gosling in the SJ27 Grace and Danger took the weekend overall.
In Class 6 again Otra Vez and Lucy Lee enjoyed match racing to the first mark and headed up the Roach to Jubilee neck and neck with Otra Vez having rounded Greenward inside and hence a tiny bit ahead. On corrected time Lucy Lee won giving her three bullets and the weekend overall.
The Dragon fleet went right down river to Crouch and were still on the whole close together on the beat down to Holliwell where unfortunately the dragon who had been in the front pack went aground hard and despite the flood had to send a crew over to get off. Peter Marchant in Beauty and the Beast won today with Avalanche second. Avalanche won the weekend having had two wins with Anarchy having been disqualified yesterday with the results amended after publication to give Avalanche the win. Avalanche, Mark Wade, won the weekend with Beauty and the Beast second.
The Elites again had two races and 22 led the fleet on the beat but by the time they got to Holliwell, Serious Moonlight was leading and stayed there for the remainder of the race. She also took race six giving her a complete set of wins over the weekend and the weekend trophy.
The Squibs had two races again and raced down to Holliwell. Mickey Wright in Spoof led race one with King Cnut in second. Humphrey had to do a 360 after a collision with Lady Penelope and lost out having to get her spinnaker down, so her turn and rehoist. Spoof won with King Cnut second. Rojo won the second race of the day with Spoof second. Jono Brown in King Cnut won the weekend one point ahead of Mickey Wright in Spoof.
In the RCOD class Cormorant sailed by Justin Waples won today having led the whole way. Sue Law in Coralie won the weekend with a first and two third places.
Amanda was leading the RBOD fleet round the course and the 90 year old boats looked fantastic rounding Redward and setting their spinnakers to go back up the Roach. The results are still to be published.
The Sandhopper fleet were quite spread during their race. Sea Phantom Peter Thompson won with Sand Star, Sue Daly second. Overall for the weekend Sea Phantom first, Sand Star second and Blue Jacket, Richard Barnes third.
In the Osprey class the overall winner came down to count back with Plan B Terry Curtis winning from Smoke, Roger Blake.
The Phantoms raced their last two races from the Pile House and went up the Roach to Jubilee before rounding Pinto. Mark Spruce won race 5 the first of today and then Bill Taylor won the final race giving him the trophy overall for the weekend. Bob Portway was the runner up with Mark Spruce in third.
The other dinghies continued to race from the Burnham Sailing Club and again enjoyed fantastic racing in front of the Clubhouse.
In the Laser class James Hutton Penman took the weekend with six straight firsts. His Dad, Nick Hutton Penman took second in 12 points just half a point ahead of Duncan de Boltz.
The dinghy handicap class was incredibly tight as well with a count back determining first and second. Dave Chamberlain in his Streaker won from Eamonn Browne in his Sprint 15 Sport.
The RS200 class was won by Jo Tribe and Marcus Collingbourne counting four firsts.
Prize givings all happen tonight after sailing.
