The Hubbards Community Waterfront has been completely transformed in preparation for the 2022 49er, 49erFX, and Nacra 17 World Championships.

What was once a thriving fish processing plant, that became derelict after decades of decline, will now be a permanent access point to amazing sailing.

Three levels of government (Government of Canada, Province of Nova Scotia and 2 Municipalities, including Halifax & Chester) and 16 private sponsors have come together in support of the World Championship and its Legacy with an overall budget of $2.7 Million dollars (CAD). Of that, the Hubbards Community Waterfront Association oversaw the $0.9M renovation and transformation of the venue. Main projects included ramp upgrades, wharf upgrades, floating dock upgrades, and site expansion with grading. Additionally, internet, electrical, and water upgrades were brought in.

In a microcosm of how the Nova Scotian economy is transforming itself from a resource driven economy to a tourism focussed economy, the Hubbards site will support the community and sailing visitors for decades to come.

In addition to the hard changes outlined above, the 2022 Worlds has brought together the regional sailing leaders. Members of the Hubbards Community Waterfront Association, Hubbards Sailing Club, St. Margarets Sailing Club, Sail Nova Scotia, and Sail Canada worked together over 2.5 years to bring these championships together and formed bonds with the community that will be lasting.

Further legacy assets related to sailing from the worlds include four RIBs to be shared by the local Sailing Clubs, Sail Nova Scotia, and Sail Canada. Additionally, the hosting society will oversee a fund to run annual training camps in these waters for years to come ensuring continued Olympic sailing and racing in the future.

Racing at the World Championship runs from August 31 - September 5, 2022 and is best accessed via the website here.
