The crews have gathered and the yachts are ready - it is all systems go for the 2022 Multihull Cup with three days of friendly and competitive racing set to start this Friday in the sparkling waters off Mallorca's southwest coast.

The idyllic setting of Port Adriano is again host for the celebration of performance catamaran sailing, with a trio of the most impressive representatives of the growing global multihull fleet ready to strut their stuff.

Former winner R-Six, an impressive 67-footer from Hudson Hakes Marine, is joined by another Multihull Cup regular in the eye-catching form of the 66' Gunboat built Coco de Mer, runner-up in the last three events.

Both those Morrelli & Melvin designed multis will be out to dethrone defending champion Allegra, with the 84' flyer from the drawing board of Nigel Irens and the Green Marine yard having taken a clean sweep of three race wins in 2021.

And the challenger duo will have the opportunity to do so, with organisers aiming to put on five races - weather permitting - during the event, including intensive short and sharp windward-leeward courses.

'It's going to be a gathering of old friends and rivals, so none of the teams are going to be easing off in any way,' said Multihull Cup Event Director Andrea Grimm.

'This is the fifth edition of the event, and we and our valued partners are delighted to welcome so many familiar faces back to such a marvellous part of Mallorca.'

It is a sentiment shared by the Multihull Cup's main partner Port Adriano, with the Phillippe Starck designed marina once again the stylish host.

Commercial Director Nani Mas said: 'We value our now long-standing relationship with the Multihull Cup, and we are delighted to welcome the owners, skippers, crews and guests to our marina. I have no doubt they will all enjoy their time out on the racecourse and - whether they win, lose or draw - we will ensure they also have a great time ashore.'

Also returning in support of the event are Rigging Projects, whose provision of reusable bottles and sponsorship of the Clean Waves water station contributed to the Multihull Cup recently receiving Silver Certification from the Sailors for the Sea Clean Regatta organisation.

The award recognises the event's drive for sustainability, with organisers highlighting the additional support of Port Adriano, Save the Med, and Silent-Yachts, the pioneering builder of solar powered catamarans who will provide VIP chase boats during the regatta.

Meanwhile North Sails, a familiar and returning face at the multihull festival of sail, will host the Friday night BBQ dock party.

The first race warning signal is scheduled for 1300 on Friday, 26 August, followed by two further days of racing, with the prize-giving on Sunday 28 August.
