The Aldeburgh Lapwing dinghy is 75 years old this year. 77 boats have been built of which about 25 are still sailing. 12 boats sailed 4 races over the weekend of 13/14th August in near perfect conditions to contest the annual championship.

It was great to see Lapwing number 1 out sailing, being one of several boats in the same family ownership since new. A number of boats have been renovated over recent years. They work well as boats that the whole family can enjoy, as well as being capable of being sailed singlehanded.

The light winds meant that those sailing singlehanded enjoyed an advantage, and they occupied the first three places. Ian Robson proved unstoppable in no 71, winning all four races, with Chris Ritchie being second throughout the weekend.

Steve Liddell, Kat Mattich, and Rob Ritchie enjoyed close racing over the tights courses with Steve eventually getting third place.

A special mention to the MacInnes family who decided that the best way of getting everybody out sailing was to have three people sailing number 40 in one race. It wasn't fast, but it was fun, which was the whole point of the weekend !
