Windermere Waterhead on 28th August now by invitation only

Things are progressing well at South Windermere Sailing Club's new venue at the YMCA north camp, with much of the new galley installed, new committee boat on the water, and matting down to help launching and recovery of keelboats.

However the clubhouse is still not ready to accept the large number of visitors that the iconic Waterhead race (from one end of Lake Windermere to the other and back) could attract.

Regretfully therefore we are having to restrict it to a limited number of invited guests from other local sailing clubs. We look forward to running a much bigger event in 2023.

The club expects to be fully ready to run its open Frostbite Series to allcomers, every Sunday from 23 October through to 4th December. Please contact the club for more details. Visit www.swsailing.co.uk

Racing to Ramp Holme and back due to the lack of wind Due to ongoing renovation work on SWSCs clubhouse, it was a limited but select entry for this years Windemere Waterhead long distance race. Racing from South Windermere Sailing Club's new location The K1 open series moved up to Windermere on Saturday 21st May 2022. South Windermere Sailing Club welcomed 5 visitors to its new base at the YMCA Lakeside, on the West bank of Windermere for the second round of the 2022 K1 open series. After Storm Arwen causes damage to the South Windermere SC clubhouse Storm Arwin had a huge effect on the Lake District, with thousands of trees blown down, and hundreds of boats damaged on Lake Windermere. Light winds for the 55th year of the running of the event 2021 is the 60th anniversary year of South Windermere Sailing Club, and June 13th was the 55th year of the running of the Waterhead race - a long distance race from Fell Foot at the south end of Lake Windermere all the way to the Waterhead buoy and back. South Windermere Sailing Club confirm that the event will go ahead South Windermere Sailing Club can confirm the running of the 2021 Waterhead Race, on Sunday 13th June, at 11am.
