Nick Martin and Calanach Finlayson are competing in the RORC Sevenstar Round Britain and Ireland Race 2022 in support of the Andrew Simpson Foundation (ASF).

Nick and Cal will set sail from Cowes, Isle of Wight, on Sunday 7th August at 11:00 sailing a Jeanneau Sun Fast 3600 ‘Diablo’ and aim to finish the 1,805nm course in 12 days. They are racing in a fleet of 38 other boats, 20 of which are double-handed.

Nick says, “I've been lucky enough to have competed in many of the most notorious races around the world including Sydney-Hobart, RORC Fastnet, Round Ireland, Middle Sea and RORC Caribbean 600. This year, my co-skipper Cal and I will compete double-handed in the RORC Sevenstar Round Britain and Ireland, an 1800 mile, non-stop race regarded as one of the most challenging in the world as we encounter the English Channel, Atlantic Ocean and North Sea with much of the race close to land with its many hazards and shipping traffic.

I want to use this opportunity to fundraise for a charity I truly believe in, the Andrew Simpson Foundation as I believe all kids deserve an opportunity in life. I hope you will find it in your heart to support Cal and me in our endeavours to provide support for this great charity”.

Nick is hoping to raise £3,000 for the ASF. If you would like to support Nick and Cal, you can do so by donating to their Just Giving page.

The ASF was inspired by Olympic Gold and Silver medallist Andrew ‘Bart’ Simpson MBE. Their mission is to transform lives through sailing.

Absolutely everything they do is driven by their belief that all young people have the ability to excel and succeed in life and work. They believe that the challenges of sailing and watersports do this by promoting health and well-being whilst also building essential life skills. These skills then enable young people to progress through education and into work.

The ASF provide watersports opportunities through their network of not-for-profit sailing centres. The Andrew Simpson Centres are based in Birmingham, Portland, Portsmouth and Reading. The ASF also has a Centre in Lake Garda, Italy and partner Centres in Grace Bay Beach, Providenciales, Turks & Caicos and Mossel Bay, South Africa. Recently the ASF also opened their new not-for-profit Andrew Simpson Yachting at Haslar Marina. At each Centre they run Charitable Programmes which enable young people to access sailing and watersports, gain accredited qualifications and develop life skills.
