A total of seven Canadian teams will represent the country at the 2022 49er, 49erFX and Nacra 17 European Championships to be held July 5-10 in Aarhus, Denmark, including Tokyo 2020 Olympians Ali ten Hove and Mariah Millen in 49erFX, William Jones and Evan DePaul in 49er, as well as bronze medalists from the Kiel Week competition recently held in Germany, Antonia and Georgia Lewin-LaFrance.

A few months before St. Margaret's Bay, N.S., is slated to welcome the top 49er, 49erFX and Nacra 17 sailors for the 2022 World Championships, August 31 to September 5, the event in Denmark will be the last major regatta to feature the best sailors in these Olympic classes before they travel to Canada.

The Canadian team will be represented by a total of 16 athletes, a group that also includes Sail Canada Development Squad members Arie Moffat and Sam Bonin in 49er.

"We're excited to race against the entire fleet here in Aarhus," said Antonia and Georgia Lewin-LaFrance, who were the bronze medalists at last year's edition of the European Championships, which were held in Thessaloniki, Greece. "It will be our first time in this venue and a good check in to see what we can adjust before the Worlds this summer."

"We are excited to be back racing in Aarhus for the European Championships," added Ali ten Hove and Mariah Millen. "This venue can keep you on your toes with shifty offshore conditions."

A total of 70 boats are registered to take part in this year's 49erFX competition. Among them are 10 sailors who finished in the top 10 at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, including gold medalists Martina Grael and Kahena Kunze from Brazil, as well as Tamara Echegoyn Dominguez and Paula Barcelo Martin from Spain, who were 4th in Tokyo.

"It's amazing to see the 49erFX fleet so strong with 70 boats competing," noted Ali ten Hove and Mariah Millen. "With all the top teams here, it should be a good fight! We are ready to give it our all!"
