The 2022 J/80 Spanish Cup was hosted by the Real Club Marítimo de Santander for a passionate group of twenty-nine J/80 teams from around Spain. With what's considered the world's best fleet of J/80 sailors, the competition for the top of the podium was fierce between multiple past European and World J/80 Champions.

After a five-race series over three days, winning convincingly with two 1sts and two 2nds was Daniel de la Pedraja/ Javier Padrón's Newind Foods. Other winners were Nuria Sánchez's Dorsia Covran in the mixed category and Nicolás Viar's Fhimasa was the youth winner.

"It has been three days of very complicated conditions. But, we have confirmed our victory with today's second place finish. It's always very exciting to win a Spanish Cup and even more so if it is at home and our club, the Real Club Marítimo de Santander", commented Pedraja, owner of the J/80 two-time World Champion team.

The real battle for the regatta for the final two steps on the podium took place between three other J/80 World Champions- Jose Azqueta's Biobiz, Jose Maria Torcida's Fredo Estrella Del Norte, and Jaime Piris's Mercury Avator. In the end, just 3 pts separated the next 3 boats. By winning the first race on the final day, Azqueta's Biobiz team earned the silver medal, while "Pichu" Torcida's Fredo Estrella Del Norte had to settle for the bronze medal just one point back. Just 2 pts in arrears of the podium was Per Roman's GP Bullhound in 4th place and rounding out the top five was Ignatius Way's Solintal.

"Not being able to sail yesterday was a shame, but the conditions were very tough. We have been on the podium for 3 or 4 years and we are happy. Congratulations to Newind Food for the consistent victory," declared "Pichu" Torcida.
