by Jaime Parga 29 Jun 2022 22:46 PDT 23-26 June 2022

With ten places in the running to qualify for this summer's World Cup in Cascais, the best crews in the country gathered in the Bay of Cadiz.

The Snipe Fleet of the Real Club Náutico de Cádiz competed in the Spanish Cup this past weekend. The event was a qualifying race for the World Championship due to take place next August in Cascais (Portugal). The best crews of Spain and Portugal met under the Andalusian sun in Cádiz, including winners of Olympic gold medals; world, european and spanish champions; and other enthusiastic crews from Portugal, USA, and Norway.

The almost 100 registered boats weren't disappointed. During the three days of the competition the local "Poniente '' ranged between 12 knots on Friday to 18 on Sunday, along with a complete progam of post-racing fun. After six races, the final victory went to Alfredo González and Cristian Sánchez (RCN Arrecife) followed by the 2021 European champions Jordi Triay and Cristian Vidal from CM Mahón, and the 2018 master world champion Damián Borras and his crewmate Sara Frannceschi, both also from CM Mahón.

With more than 615 members and almost 290 registered boats, Spain's Snipe Class is one of the largest in the world. Besides the two major championships, they also organize a National Circuit that brings together regattas in some of the most unique venues in the country, aiming to maintain contact and high competitive level amog the fleets.
