Counting down to the 50th anniversary of the iconic Cape2Rio Race - Entries now open

by Royal Cape Yacht Club 21 Jun 2022 03:39 PDT 2 January 2023

Imagine a midsummer ocean yacht race so epic, it starts in Cape Town and ends in Rio - with just the vast Atlantic between!

We are counting down to the start of the iconic #Cape2RioRace, which will be celebrating its 50th year in 2023. Boats set sail on 2 January for the #adventureofalifetime.

The Cape 2 Rio Yacht Race, is the longest continent to continent yacht race in the southern hemisphere. It was inspired by South African sailing legend, Bruce Dalling, winner on handicap of the 1968 Transatlantic Single-Handed Yacht Race.

The race was conceived to give South African & Brazilian sailors an opportunity to take part in a Trans-Atlantic Ocean crossing. Since its inception, the race has evolved into a strong competitive event attracting famous sailors and yachts including Icap Leopard, Morning Glory, Rambler, Broomstick and Parker Pen.

Despite the introduction of multi class and record setting entries, the race however remains true to its roots as and is open to cruising yachts and sailors.
