This weekend the Rey Juan Carlos / El Corte Inglés Máster Regatta will celebrate its seventh edition as the prelude to the Xacobeo 6mR Worlds, the 6-Metre class World Championships.

41 teams representing 15 countries will be lining the docks at Nauta Sanxenxo, host to the most important world-class sailing event of 2022 to be held in Spain.

Pedro Campos, "I would encourage everyone to come and spend a few days in Sanxenxo, where they will be able to watch both modern and classic fleets live in action."

Final preparations were underway today in Sanxenxo ahead of ten great days of competition for the 7th edition of the Rey Juan Carlos / El Corte Inglés Máster Regatta from Friday 10th to Sunday 12th June.

The event is the fourth series of the Copa de España and serves as the special prelude to the Xacobeo 6mR, the 6 Metre World Championships, which is held from 13th to 18th June. Sanxenxo is to host 41 teams from 15 countries, competing in the most important world-class sailing event of the year in Spain.

Telmo Martín, Mayor of Sanxenxo, was particularly excited by the concept of both participants and visitors experiencing an exceptional two weeks, "Sanxenxo is delighted and has experience in hosting top-level sailing championships of this calibre. We look forward to welcoming the teams from 15 different countries who will be participating, and hope that as well as racing, they will also enjoy our gastronomy and the local area."

Pedro Campos, President of the Real Club Náutico de Sanxenxo, was keen to emphasise the important work the club has been undertaking in the last few years, "The great moment is finally here, one that for several years we have been waiting for, and in the next few days we will make Sanxenxo the very centre of world sailing."

Campos has set high standards for the organisational capacity of the two great events in Sanxenxo and affirms, "as the organising club we aim to repeat, and even to exceed, the great success achieved at the Spanish and European World Championships in the last few years. The best sailors in the world will be competing on our water for the numerous trophies at stake."

From a sailor's perspective, Pedro Campos, the current World and European champion for the class, has established the objective for the boat owned by José Cusí, "As the crew of "Bribon 500," our great challenge will be to try and revalidate our double world title gained in Canada and Finland."

Racing in Sanxenxo, open to the public Sanxenxo is a particularly special port in that its sporting marina offers free access to any visitor, and as such, the Real Club Náutico President highlighted, "I would encourage everyone to spend a few days in Sanxenxo, where they will be able to watch both modern and classic fleets live in action."

Nava Castro, Director of Tourism for the Xunta de Galicia, also emphasised the great role of Galicia in major sailing events, "Our community is once again the protagonist for a world-class event in the sport. Galicia is truly a safe bet with its fabulous sailing conditions, and I am confident that we will see a spectacular competition for both participants and spectators."
