A slow start for the East Anglian fleet sponsored by DXB Pumps, but our Dutch Regatta is now only nine weeks away!

The Pattinson Cup & Ralph Herring weekend at the end of April produced light conditions with some of our regular supporters unable to launch their boats on time, the fleet ranged from a Sigma 33 to a J121 and a new X40, all yachts had a great weekend out on the water with good race management by the West Mersea Yacht club and The Royal Burnham Yacht club. The overall winner for both races was Michael Wheeler with his classic 41ft S&S wooden yacht Golden Fleece which again proves its not all about carbon fibre, faired keels and extra tall rigs.

To celebrate EAORA being around for over seventy years, the committee has decided to reintroduce the popular East Anglian Week with a race from Burnham to Ostend on the 9th July followed by racing for a week in southern Holland with pontoon parties and the ambiance of pretty Dutch harbours and first class restaurants. East Anglian week in southern Holland was very popular back in the 1980's, this continued for over 25 years.

With so many people unable to fulfil their boating fun due to Covid over the last few years it was agreed amongst the committee that many yachts would cherish a week abroad with a good mixture of racing and socializing. We will be visiting all the old favourite places like Middleburg, Veere, Kortgene, Zierikzee, Wemeldinge, Sint Annaland and prize-giving in Breskens Yacht Club is on Friday 15th July.

We are in the process of completing the final program and racing instructions, but in the first instance please put a call out to me, the chairman of East Anglian Claire Scott on 07990 041569 let me share my enthusiasm and even if your boat isn't IRC or Offshore race ready subject to demand we are looking at a white sails only fleet for everyone to enjoy where the emphasis will be on fun and laughter.

If you haven't managed to put your name down to any other week regatta's racing and you have a week spare this is a must do family event as it has been one of the East Coast's best kept secrets for many years amongst the sailors within the Thames Estuary.
