This year's British Dragon Association (BDA) Edinburgh Cup and regional Southwest Championships is being hosted by the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club (RCYC) in July with entries open online.

Making a return to Cornwall, the two-day Southwest Championships, racing on 3rd and 4th July will be swiftly followed by the renowned Edinburgh Cup, raced from 5th - 8th July 2022.

Dragons from Cowes, Burnham, Aldeburgh, Medway, and Ireland have already got their places secured at the most prestigious Dragon event in the racing calendar. Sailors will be set to enjoy first class sailing and a packed social programme across the six days in Falmouth.

This year's venue for the 2022 Edinburgh Cup, the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club (RCYC) is located within a Grade II listed clubhouse on a 17th century private quayside. The club overlooks spectacular views of Falmouth Harbour, Flushing, Carrick Roads and beyond.

The Edinburgh Cup has been the British Open National Championship for the British Dragon Class since 1949. It was presented by the Duke of Edinburgh (Prince Philip) after the members of the Island Sailing Club presented Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip with a Dragon named Bluebottle on the occasion of their marriage in 1948. This was also incidentally the first year in which the Dragon was an Olympic class. Bluebottle herself was to play a part in the competition under various sailing masters, finishing second in 1954 with Lt. Commander Hewitt, second again with Graham Mann in 1956 and third with Ross Coles in 1960.
