Success at Universal Marina Flare Amnesty

by Lalizas 5 May 2022 02:23 PDT

The flare amnesty, which took place during the Safety Day at Universal Marina last weekend, saw many boat owners from across the South coast in attendance. Over 1,400 expired flares were received and over £963.78 was raised for the RNLI, Wetwheels, Jubilee Sailing Trust and Sail2Help charities.

Charlie Mill, Managing Director of Lalizas UK comments, "the flare amnesty was a phenomenal success. The partnership between Pains Wessex, Premier Marinas, Aspire and ourselves worked incredibly well and as a result, we filled the van to capacity with expired pyrotechnics."

He continues, "Many boat owners keep expired pyrotechnics thinking that they may be needed. This, combined with the lack of safe disposal opportunities, meant that many of the flares we received, dated back to the 70's and the oldest was dated 1963."

Ally Ogg, Sales Executive at Pains Wessex comments, "We were overwhelmed with the quantity of expired flares that were returned to us and the positive response of the recently launched refill flare packs. Events like these present the perfect opportunity to not only dispose of your pyrotechnics safely, but also speak to the experts to have all your pyro questions answered and pick up a replacement set at a special on the day price, all whilst raising money for some well deserving charities."

For those who were unable to attend last week's flare amnesty, the next event will be taking place on Saturday 14th May from 10:00am - 3pm at Poole Yacht Club, The Yacht Haven, New Harbour Road West, Hamworthy, Poole, BH15 4AQ.
