The Lightship Race, the first of a ten-race series of the Ocean Yacht Racing Association of San Francisco Bay, kicks off the crewed offshore racing in Northern California. The race itself is a 22.0nm out and back race starting and finishing off the iconic St. Francis YC in San Francisco CA. The race is very popular with Bay area J/Crews, some walking off with silverware!

Racing in PHRF Division 1A, twin J/125s- Andrew Picel's J/125 ARSENAL and Rufus Sjoberg's RUFLES- enjoyed a close battle all the way around the race track from start to finish.

Picel commented on their win, "we won the opening race against another J/125 called RUFLES. We duked it out with several lead changes along the way. We took the lead back just before the Golden Gate Bridge and never looked back, with the wind building into the mid-teens, both boats were planing into the finishing off the St. Francis YC race deck. Fast race, it was lots of fun!"

In the PHRF Division 1B, Nesrin Basroz's J/111 SWIFT NESS led a quartet of J's by taking third place. Fourth was Tracy Rogers' J/120 HOKULANI and fifth went to Timo Bruck's J/120 TWIST.

In PHRO 2 Division, Steven Gordon's J/88 INCONCEIVABLE took the bronze, John Arens' J/109 REVERIE was fourth, and Sergei Podshivalov's J/105 JAVELIN was fourth place.
