OK Sprint Championship at Burghfield Sailing Club

by Tony Woods 11 Apr 2022 05:32 PDT 9 April 2022

Burghfield S.C attracted 13 entries for the OK Sprint event on Saturday 9th April. The racing was fast and furious with 8 starts split by a lunchtime break. The race management was superbly handled by Ann and Nick Jackson who set a short line, just the right length to fit thirteen OKs on.

The 10-17 knot breeze was shifty and a little erratic. Head out of the boat stuff.

The morning session had Nick Craig kept busy with an Oppie Training session giving an opportunity for the fleet to pick up a win. The wins were shared out with a win for differant sailors in each race.

Russ Clarke, Doug Powell, Gavin Poullion, and Richard Burton had made good starts to the event with Tony Woods and Simon Davis still in the hunt too.

Nick Craig joined in with the afternoon races meaning the tight starts became even tighter. Every place was contested for with less than a minute between 1st and last.

Nick won the afternoon session but was pushed hard all the way.

Russ Clarke was the most consistent sailor of the day to take 1st overall having knocked on the door on more than a few occasions over the last 12 months. At last he seems to be listening to his wife!

Doug Powell on his return to Burghfield remembered where all the shifts were and took a deserved 2nd.

Tony Woods took 3rd with an up and down day.

Thanks to Burghfield and especially the Jacksons for a superb day's racing.
